Para-Sight's Live Recording Procedure
The On Stage Split
At the stage we place a special microphone/line junction box called a split where all microphone and direct lines on stage are plugged into. From there each individual line is sent out to the P.A. front of house mixer, the monitor mixer and the remote recording station. Each of the three stations can generate seperate mixes without affecting the other. With this method the master recording has each mic and line on the stage recorded to a seperate track. There is also additional ambient room mic augmentsto capture the audience and the live sound of the venue.
Post Production
Once ther performance has been captured, the individual tracks are taken back to the studio for editing, mixing and fixing. At this point you may even want to add more tracks such as backing vocals or additional instruments. This is also a good opportunity to remedy a bad note or move things around a bit for timing purposes. After the tracks have been cleande up, it's time to mix!
Unlike Live tapes you may have made off the P.A. board, these masters can be completely remixed just as if they were recorded in the studio. Processors, EQ and Effects are all added to taste, along with the live ambient mics to make it a fabulous studio quality live performance recording. Check out Michael Franti and Spearhead Live at Folsom Prison for an example...
